This Tanzania Kenya safari is for the adventurous traveller. This African safari combines cultural tours, exploration of stunning scenery and game drives in search of African wildlife, bird watching and boat rides in lakes in Kenya and Tanzania. This African wildlife safari takes you to Arusha, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Lake Eyasi, Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Masai Mara, Lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru, Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria and Samburu.

Day 1: Kilimanjaro – Arusha

Our Tanzania driver/guide will meet you at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to Arusha for overnight at Arusha Coffee Lodge.

Day 2: Arusha National Park

After breakfast, drive to Arusha National Park for full day game drives. Lunch at Hatari Lodge. The park is one of the few in Tanzania that allow walking safaris, in part because it is a small park with few dangerous predators. Although one of the smallest parks, it is also one of the most beautiful with it’s spectacular views of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro and the Ngurdoto Craters and spectacular waterfalls. The park also boasts of abundant wildlife and the shallow, alkaline Momela Lakes which attract a wide variety of wader birds, particularly flamingos. Return to Arusha Coffee Lodge in the evening for overnight.

Day 3: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park, arriving Tarangire Safari Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drives in the park. Tarangire National Park, one of the hidden jewels of Tanzania, boasts a concentration of wildlife second only to Ngorongoro Crater. It features an impressive amount and array of bird life and plant life. It is named after the Tarangire River, which runs directly through the center of the park and is the only permanent water source for the animals. Along the banks of this river you will find herds of wildebeest (or gnu) and zebra, followed by Grant’s gazelle, Thomson’s gazelle and many others. Lurking in the background lion and leopard keep a watchful eye on a possible meal. The park offers views of grass and floodplains with impressive baobab and flat topped acacia trees scattered throughout. During the dry season the park may look quite ordinary, but activities continue even more earnestly due to the now increased competition.

Day 4: Tarangire

Full day game drives in Tarangire National Park.

Day 5: Tarangire – Lake Manyara

After breakfast, depart for Lake Manyara, arriving at Kirurumu Tented Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drives in the park. Lake Manyara National Park offers varied ecosystems, incredible bird life, and breathtaking views. Lake Manyara’s famous tree-climbing lions are another reason to pay this park a visit. In addition to the lions, the park is also home to the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world – a fact that makes for interesting game viewing of large families of the primates.

Day 6: Lake Manyara – Lake Eyasi

After breakfast, depart to the shores of Lake Eyasi, arriving in time for lunch at the Tindiga Tented lodge. Lake Eyasi is a very scenic soda lake found on the southern border of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. After lunch, visit the indigenous hunter-gatherer bushmen, known as the Hadzabe and Datonga tribes, who inhabits the shores of Lake Eyasi. You’ll be conducted to a tour of their homesteads, learn about their way of life, animal tracking, medicinal plants, and much more. Some wildlife and a wide range of bird species can be viewed during walks around the lake, which can be arranged.

Day 7: Lake Eyasi – Ngorongoro

After breakfast drive to Ngorongoro Crater and arrive at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge in time for lunch. Late afternoon drive to a Masai Manyatta Village. Visitors meet the village elders, get an insight into the Masai way of life, visit the bomas, learn about their prized cattle and visit the local school.

Day 8: Ngorongoro

After breakfast, descend into Ngorongoro Crater carrying packed lunch for full day game drives. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro Crater supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park, is its dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard. Return to the lodge in the evening for overnight.

Day 9: Ngorongoro – Serengeti

After breakfast, depart for the Serengeti National Park with a stopover at Olduvai Gorge, boasting with history dating back to the dawn of time. It was here, that the anthropologists Drs. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of the famous ‘Nutcracker Man" and ‘Handy Man’, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution. Leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. Lunch at Serengeti Sopa Lodge and then set off for afternoon game drives till sunset.

Day 10: Serengeti

After breakfast we head to the south-eastern side of the park, visiting the Barafu Kopjes and the Ngare Nanyuki River area, for our morning and afternoon game drives. Apart from the lion prides you find in the area, the Barafu Kopjes is the place to visit for possible cheetah sightings. The Ngare Nanyuki River area is also well known for being teaming with wildlife.

Day 11: Serengeti – Masai Mara

After breakfast, transfer to Isebania border of Tanzania and Kenya (carrying packed lunch). After being helped at the immigration desk, you will be handed over to our Kenyan driver/guide. Game drives en route the lodge.

Day 12: Masai Mara

(Today, will offer you an ideal opportunity to do an optional but unforgettable hot air balloon flight, followed by a delightful champagne breakfast. This available at a supplementary cost, but can be booked in advance). Spend the whole day in the Masai Mara plains doing game drives and on the look out for herds of wildebeests crossing the crocodile-infested Mara River.

Day 13: Masai Mara – Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, depart for Naivasha. Lunch at Lake Naivasha Country Club. After lunch, we will spend the rest of the evening bird watching at the grounds of the Club as well as the lake shoreline. Optional visit to the Crescent Island, which is across the lake from Lake Naivasha Country Club.

Day 14: Lake Naivasha – Lake Nakuru

After breakfast, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park (a birding paradise). Arrive at Lake Nakuru Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drives in the park. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild’s giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game.

Day 15: Lake Nakuru – Lake Baringo

After breakfast, depart for Lake Baringo, one of the two fresh water lakes in Kenya’s Rift Valley, is the gem for birders and bird photographers. Arrive at Lake Baringo Club in time for lunch. After lunch, set off for nature walks around Lake Baringo. A resident ornithologist leads bird walks in the evening .You can buy a checklist of the birds of Lake Baringo identify the trees with a print guide and read a daily log of species seen in the grounds which often extends to four pages.

Birding here is a real pleasure as the birds are very colorful and not at all shy – some even come and feed from your hands. Whatever you do at Lake Baringo don’t miss the bird boat trip. From our motorized dugout, complete with sunshade you a have a marvelous view of the Laikipia escarpment and the Tugen hills .

Day 16: Lake Baringo – Lake Bogoria

After breakfast, depart for the nearby Lake Bogoria, arriving at Lake Bogoria Country Club in time for lunch. Here, you’ll see thousands of flamingos and beautiful hot springs, do walks around the cliffs and go for a boat ride on the lake.

Day 17: Lake Bogoria – Samburu

After breakfast, Samburu Game Reserve with a brief stopover at Nyahururu Thompson Falls. Lunch at Sarova Shaba Game Lodge. Afternoon game drives in the park.

Day 18: Samburu

Full day in Samburu, a beautiful and game abundant park, home to rarely found species such as the Beisa Oryx, Grevy’s zebra, blue-necked Somali ostrich and reticulated giraffe. Morning and afternoon game drives with an optional visit to a local Samburu village to learn the culture of the Samburu community.

Day 19: Samburu – Nairobi – Depart Home

After breakfast, depart for Nairobi. Stop at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi for lunch and later transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to catch your evening flight home.
