SVAS 001: 5 Nights/ 6 days Rural Kenya Experience

Day 01: Nairobi – Rural Central Province

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport preferably with an early morning flight, you will be met by our Airport representative for met and greet and later introduce you to your driver guide and your companion for the next six days. You shall have a stop over at a city shopping mall for some items like films are hardy to get in the rural areas. Later we commence our drive to central province. The area is mostly inhabited by the kikuyu community (one of the 43 tribes in Kenya). They are majorly small scale farmers. You shall visit their historical site in companion with a local guide where they believe the first man named Kikuyu and his wife Mumbi together with their nine daughters came from to bred to the larger Kikuyu community we have today. Lunch will be served en route. Total distance to cover is 200km with brief stop over to water falls, pineapple plantation, banana farms, rivers and rural towns. Dinner and overnight will be under canvas (tents). Three course meal will be served together with local dishes among them Mukimo – marshed beans and maize with potatoes and green vegetables, sweet potatoes, arrowroots, cassava & yams.

Day 02: Household Chores

We shall today take part in fetching water and carrying with our backs, collecting firewood, milking cow for our next tea milk, preparing an open three stone fire for cooking and harvesting vegetable crops in the field for our next meal. All meals and overnight at our camping site.

Day 03: Tea/ Coffee Picking

With an option of traditional breakfast which includes fermented porridge and soup, we today learn how to pick cash crop and take to the buying/ collecting centre for weighing. After lunch, we visit the nearby processing factory to learn how it’s made to the beverage that quenches our thirst. Meals and overnight stay is at our campsite.

Day 04: Local Facilities

Today we shall visit the local church, cattle dip, dispensary, chief office, primary and secondary school and stone mine. Retire the day at the campsite.

Day 05: Nairobi City

We today break the camp after breakfast for a two and half drive to Nairobi city. Embark on a Nairobi city tour in the afternoon. Bed and breakfast accommodation in a Nairobi City Hotel.

Day 06: Departure

Morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to the Airport to connect your international flight home or your next destination.
