SVAC 009: 12 Nights/13 Days Kenya Camping Safari

This 13 day Kenya safari takes you to the best wildlife game parks in Kenya, Amboseli, Sweetwaters in Mt Kenya, Samburu, Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara and Lake Naivasha.

Day 1: Nairobi – Amboseli

Depart Nairobi for Amboseli National Park. You will arrive at Kibo Safari Tented Camp before lunch. You check into the lodge and then settle for lunch. Afternoon game drives.

Day 2: Amboseli

Full day in Amboseli with morning and afternoon game drives. You’ll have an option to visit Maasai villages to learn their culture and dance. The Masai dancers charge a fee and you’ll pay this directly if you opt to go there.

Day 3: Amboseli – Sweetwaters

After breakfast, depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy located in Mt Kenya region. Lunch at Sweetwaters Tented Camp. You can do day and night game drives around the private conservancy, which is home for the members of the “Big Five" (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard). The conservancy has a higher wildlife-to-area ratio than any Kenyan national park and is one of only four private game conservancies to have been founded in Kenya. At the forefront of the Kenyan conservancy programme, the conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, hosts the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya, and shelters large numbers of rare and endangered species.

Day 4: Sweetwaters – Samburu

After breakfast, depart for Samburu National Reserve arriving Sarova Shaba Game Lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon game drives.

Day 5: Samburu

Full day in Samburu, a beautiful and game abundant park, home to rarely found species such as the Beisa Oryx, Grevy’s zebra, blue-necked Somali ostrich and reticulated giraffe. Morning and afternoon game drives with an optional visit to a local Samburu village to learn the culture of the Samburu community (You’ll pay USD30 per person).

Day 6: Samburu – Lake Baringo

After breakfast, depart for Lake Baringo, arriving at Lake Baringo Club in time for lunch. Lake Baringo is the threshold of Northern Kenya, and its freshwaters are an oasis in the arid plains. After lunch, rest in the hotel or take a boat ride and cross to Baringo islands for a short walk in the forest (boat can be booked at the lodge and price not included below). You can see hippos in the lake from the boat.

Day 7: Lake Baringo – Lake Bogoria

After breakfast, drive to Lake Bogoria, arriving at Lake Bogoria Country Club in time for lunch. Lake Bogoria, also known for the hot sulphur water gushing out of the grounds, is the exact definition of nature’s version of bath and Sauna. Here you will be able to see the Woodland Kingfisher, Northern white-headed buffalo weaver, Rufous crowned roller, etc. Dinner and overnight by the lake

Day 8: Lake Bogoria – Lake Nakuru

After breakfast, proceed to Lake Nakuru. Lunch at Flamingo Tented Hill Camp. Afternoon game drives in the park. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approx 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. Also, many species of game can be found in the park including the introduced Rothschild’s giraffe, black and white rhino, waterbuck, reedbuck, lion, buffalo, leopard, baboon and many species of plains game.

Day 9: Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara

Breakfast and then depart for Masai Mara Game Reserve via the magnificent scenery of the Great Rift Valley. Lunch at Mara Leisure Camp and then depart for afternoon game drives.

Day 10-11: Masai Mara

Full spent exploring the stunning Masai Mara scenery and in search of the ‘The Big Five’ – Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Buffalos and Rhinos. Besides these ‘Big 5’ there are many other wild animals and every single one is incredible to watch. They include the Giraffes, Zebras, Hippos, Baboons, Wildebeests, Warthog, Antelopes, Gazelles and different Bird species. Optional evening visit to a Masai Village to learn the dance and culture of the Masai tribe (it will cost you $35 per person and this is paid directly to the village).

Day 12: Masai Mara – Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, depart for the nearby Lake Naivasha. Naivasha is one of the gems in a necklace of Rift Valley lakes, has a variety of bird life and hippo colonies. Lunch at Crayfish Camp Naivasha.

Crayfish Camp is located along Moi South Lake Road, 18km from Naivasha town set in natural Acacia woodland within one of the largest flower farms. It is popular with both domestic and overseas tourists and offers a wide range of activities such as mountain biking, boating, horse riding, nature walks, indoor games and picnicking. Accommodation comprises of self-contained cottages, modern tents of different sizes, vehicle and boat sleeping rooms as well as camping facilities using your own tents.

Day 13: Lake Naivasha – Nairobi – Depart Home

After breakfast, depart for Nairobi. Transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to catch your international flight home.
